  • What is fireclay? Fireclay is not found naturally. It was developed by humans to create a stable material for kiln construction. Pure fired clay expands and shrinks, which can quickly lead to cracks. Fireclay is made from alumina and aluminum oxide, the latter being the oxygen compound of the element aluminum. After production, the resulting fireclay is pulverized into various grain sizes and then mixed with new raw clay. This is how firebricks are created. They are proven by their reliable dimensional stability and are fireproof up to around 1,500 degrees Celsius. Their aluminum oxide content is crucial to their quality. High-quality firebricks have an oxide content of between 30 and 45 percent.
